Bär & Karrer partner selected as arbitrator for the London 2012 Olympic Games

Bär & Karrer is pleased to announce that the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) has selected partner Michele Bernasconi to sit as arbitrator on the tribunal for the Olympic Games in London. This special tribunal, called the CAS ad hoc Division, will provide all participants in the Games with free access to justice rendered within time limits that keep pace with the competition.

Of the 12 arbitrators globally chosen for their expertise in arbitration/sports law, Michele Bernasconi is the only one from Switzerland and one of four from Europe.

The Olympic tribunal will be operational in London from 17 July 2012 (10 days before the Olympics begin) until 12 August 2012 (the end of the Olympics). During this period, the arbitrators are expected to be available around the clock since the tribunal renders its decisions within 24 hours.

"I am deeply honored to be one of the Olympic arbitrators. I am looking forward to fair, colorful Olympic Games in a fantastic city" says Michele Bernasconi.
