Bär & Karrer Hosted the Rethink Philanthropy Symposium together with Lombard Odier and the ETH Foundation

At the 'Rethink Philanthropy' symposium held in Zurich on 18 April 2018, Bär & Karrer in cooperation with Lombard Odier and the ETH Foundation brought together leaders engaged in philanthropy and impact investment. The symposium focused on the current challenges and opportunities for philanthropists and addressed topics such as innovative forms of financing, the importance of sustainable solutions and foundation governance. Tina Wüstemann, Head of Private Clients and Partner at Bär & Karrer, took part in discussions with Maximilian Martin, Global Head Philanthropy at Lombard Odier, on how to assist philanthropists in realizing their goals, addressing also the do's and dont's when setting up an own charity. She commented: "Each family and its philanthropic approach is unique, which requires bespoke legal advice and tailor-made solutions."

 

Patrick Odier, Senior Managing Partner at Lombard Odier, recapped to the audience the essentiality of philanthropy and of its power to transform society. He said: "Technology is reshaping how we live, work and think." ETH President Lino Guzzella delivered a keynote speech on the future of education,. Yves Daccord, Director-General at the International Committee of the Red Cross Switzerland, discussed on how innovative financing can bring new impulses to humanitarian projects whereas Hannes Schmid, CEO of the Smiling Gecko Foundation, spoke about the village school project of the Swiss charity Smiling Gecko and how to ensure sustainability.
